Life's a highway
In the last scene of Good Will Hunting, the character played by Matt Damon decides to give in to his feelings and takes the long ride West to the love of his life, played by Minnie Driver. There is a poignant song that plays as the car fades into the distance to new possibilities. Makes perfect sense that Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty is on the original soundtrack, the move has a 70s feel about it & Matt does want to start afresh and "give up the booze and the onenight stands and try to settle down in a quiet little town and forget about everything". It is surreal driving alone on a highway in the US for a long stretch something I did twice for about three thousand miles. Driving to the Pretenders and Pink floyd and Farida Khanum and Pathanay Khan, drilling holes into the stearing wheel with my cigerettes. I miss my dodge omni. I miss me. You grow old and what you did as a yound man feels like a different person, a different lifetime. Now the only time I feel the same joi de vivre is in my recurring dream sequences where I find myself on the same highway that I loved
