If music be the food of love, play on

One good thing that came from being alone this past summer was all the time I had to roam around favourite places for classical music. So from saddar, I got a long time favourite tape convered onto a CD.  Thanks to me, the store has this CD freely available - damn the copyrights. For those exploring semi-classical, this album would be a good start. To imagine that they only have 1 tape in their collection by this artist who has a lot more albums to her credit.  The irritating part is the utter cluelessness of the staff and cockiness of the management - ask them a simple question (like why it takes them more than 10 days to convert a tape to a CD) and they would just try to bullshit you. Doing a sales job on a sales guy is not very fruitful.

In any case, the first semiclassical track could be heard at  http://www.musicindiaonline.com/music/l/01001F)

I had been looking for an audio track that had alaap portion being played on Indus Music. Fortunately there is a video to this track that one of the Indian channels was playing and noted down the track & album. It is called Punjab by Karunesh and the CD is pretty good.

The track is available for download at http://www.pragard.com/download.aspx?lid=16845
A sample is available at http://www.im.ntu.edu.tw/~b91007/Karunesh%20%20%20Punjab.mp3

So this morning I drove to work to the sound of Karunesh, blissfully unaware of the choas around me.  Things could only get better from this point onwards. The skies are overcast and the wind direction augurs well for Karachi.
